The staff at Schultz Motors, owned by a family team, of Duane, Todd and Tyler, is proud to have been serving the Milan area, with Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge vehicles since 1945. Their full-service dealership is located at 260 County Street. The dealership opened for business at the present location in 1977 after moving from the location of the present-day fire station.
Schultz Motors has a rich family history associated with their business. Duane’s Father, Leland, opened the Wabash St. Location in 1945. Isabelle’s father, John Bruckner, owned the local Oldsmobile dealership, which was located at the current County Street address. The dual name of Schultz and Bruckner is well-known around town, as the two joined not only business interests, but Leland’s son Duane fell for John’s daughter Isabelle, and the rest is history. Duane began participating in the business shortly after high school and WWII. Schultz Motors of Milan is celebrating their 65th year of selling Chrysler Products. This past April the dealership was featured on the NPR radio show, All Things Considered. That interview can be heard at www.npr.org. Schultz Motors has certainly made big news lately, as they also were the focus of a recent article featured in the May issue of Automotive News. Tyler Schultz relayed, “I’m an advocate for small dealers. We offer a small-town approach to selling cars and that is why people come here from quite a distance. Our biggest obstacle today is that people believe that volume dealerships can give them the best price. Cars are priced equally to all dealers. We don’t deal with commissions or lots of overhead, so to the contrary, we can often give the best deal.” Schultz Motors employs eleven people, sells about 120 new cars a year and an equal number of used vehicles. Duane served for years on the Milan Village Council, School Board, Fire Department and is still active in Rotary. He also serves on the Federal Prison Board. Isabelle was instrumental in the founding of the Greater Milan Area Community Foundation. Tyler opened Michigan Adventure Diving in 1995.
