Member Spotlight: Adam Du Bois, Caballero Financial

Milan has a new name in financial planning, and he is about as local as they come.

Adam Du Bois is a wealth manager at Caballero Financial, located in the old Ray's Barbershop building at 103 East Main Street in downtown Milan. If you have walked past that iconic corner and wondered what moved in, now you know.

Adam is a fourth-generation Milan resident. His parents, grandparents, and their families before them all called this town home. His mom and dad, John and Rebekah Du Bois, own Mold Pro on Main Street. Adam attended Milan schools his entire life and graduated from Milan High School. Growing up here shaped how Adam sees his work. He is not just advising clients. He is helping neighbors.

How he got started

Adam's love for investing started early, and out of necessity. He paid his way through college in cash, with no help from anyone. He spent his first two and a half years at Washtenaw Community College, then finished with a bachelor's degree in business administration from Eastern Michigan University.

Along the way he saved up a lump sum and wanted it to grow. He started with safe, simple certificates of deposit. That first taste of watching money work turned into a real passion. Today he loves portfolio management, studying stocks, bonds, ETFs, mutual funds, and much more, and following how the global economy fits together like a puzzle.

That passion is backed by real credentials. Adam holds his life insurance license, the Securities Industry Essentials certification, the Series 7, and the Series 66. Those are four separate exams, each one requiring months of study. He passed all four on his first try.

What he offers

Adam describes his role less like a salesman and more like a friend guiding you through your financial life. Just had a baby? Let's look at a 529 college savings plan. Landed your first real job out of school? Let's talk about a Roth IRA. Have an old 401(k) that needs to be invested? Let's talk about your options.

His services include personalized retirement planning, education planning, tax-efficient planning, overall investment management, and much more. For business owners, he can set up 401(k) and SIMPLE IRA plans. Those matching programs help attract good employees and keep them around.

Caballero is an independent financial firm, and that matters. An independent advisor is not tied to one company's product line, so Adam can recommend what actually fits you rather than what a corporate parent wants to sell.

One thing he hears a lot is that you need a fortune to work with an advisor. Not true. The account minimum is modest, and Adam is glad to help with debt management, first time investing, or simply getting a plan in place.

The first step is easy

Getting started takes about two short meetings, and the first two are complimentary. The first meeting covers your full financial picture and a quick risk tolerance questionnaire. Adam uses a simple framework he calls FORD: Family, Occupation, Retirement, and Dreams. Whether your dream is a classic Mustang, a month in Hawaii, or helping your grandkids through college, the plan starts with what matters to you.

Adam lives by a simple mantra. No sales pitch, just a low-pressure conversation. His goal in that first meeting is to listen and understand what you want, not to push you into anything.

Adam is flexible about where you meet. Stop by the office, grab a coffee, or hop on a Zoom call.

Rooted in the community

Adam does more than work in Milan. He lives it. He is a member of the Milan Rotary, where he helps with scholarships and holiday giving. He also leads the boys' high school group at Fieldstone Church, a role he has held for four years.

His message to anyone putting off a financial plan is simple. Small, steady habits add up over time. The best time to start is now, and it does not take much to begin.
